Ovar's technique, segmentation, is based on the use of precise segments of different sizes and colors of hard wood that are glued together in a "ring".  When turned, the designed pattern appears on both the outside and the inside. His designs are  inspired by the southwest  and he uses typical wood types of  that  area, but in addition, he now uses local "firewood" such as maple, cherry and alder etc.
