A.R. Sutton
|
As a child in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, A. R. Sutton was baptized into the art world by an accidental plunge into a bucket of house paint. "I don't know if I was drawn to the color of it, or the texture, but they said I went straight for the bucket as if I were going home," he says today. Today, he delves into another medium: metal sculpture. His Maasai Dancers, rendered in bronze with patina, float in small groups and circles, while his fluid Quanzaa storytellers shine in stainless steel. "Elongating the form and keeping the arms and legs as a single line accentuates the properties of the mirrored finish of stainless."
